Have you ever seen a 180-degree waterfall before? If the answer is no, you must visit Tumpak Sewu, a cascading waterfall in East Java (a 2-hour drive from the city of Malang).
At the parking lot, you need to pay IDR 20,000 entrance fee. From here it is a 10-minute walk down to the viewpoint where you can see the entire waterfall below you. It can get foggy here due to the rising water, so be patient if you want to see the best view. If you are lucky, you can even see Mount Semeru in the distance.
To get close to the waterfall itself, you have to hike further down. The path goes from steps to slippery wooden planks and mud. You also have to descend through a smaller waterfall while holding on to a rope. Not an everyday hike! At the bottom, you have to pay another IDR 10,000 to continue the path. After crossing the river twice, we were in awe by this 120-meter-high curtain of waterfalls that goes around 180 degrees.
You will get wet! When you go down you have to descend through a waterfall. Provide an extra pair of dry clothes and if possible a waterproof bag for your belongings.
