Lions Head is a mountain with a height of 669 metres. The mountain gets its name from its resemblance to the mane of a lion. Climbing Lions Head is one of the most popular hikes in Cape Town. It’s a fairly steep hike to the top of the mountain, not too difficult overall, which offers spectacular views of Camps Bay and Table Mountain. There are several starting points, so make sure to check them out (some routes take a little longer than others).
We began our hike at a parking lot near Camps Bay on Victoria Road. Here it starts with a steady incline up a paved path to the summit. After about 45 minutes you reach an open area with views of Camps Bay and Table Mountain in front of you.
After another 10 minutes, you reach a plateau with some rocky outcrops and boulders. This last part requires bit more climbing.
The 360-degree view from the top is absolutely breathtaking and totally worth it.
The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.
