A wonderful view on the Innergschloss Glacier within 2 hours of hiking.
Park at the Matreier Tauernhaus (€5 fee) and take the 'hüttentaxi' up to the mountain village. This will take you only 15 minutes. After arriving at the mountain alms, follow the yellow signs saying 'Gletscherweg'. This hike starts off with a flat trail through the meadows, but will shortly start to go up. You keep ascending until you reach a wonderful view on the glacier. Continue the path towards the glacier and decide on whether or not you want to touch the snow or not. This trail forms a loop, so you don't have to take the same route back. Descend on the other side of the valley, following the yellow signs back to the village, with easy steps and trails. Don't be afraid of the goats and sheep you'll come across. After arriving at the small mountain village again, you can decide to take the taxi back or hike your way down. You'll see a little chapel in the rocks and the beautiful river that flows all the way down to Matrei. Perfect for a day excursion with beautiful views.
