Huanglong National Park in Sichuan Province, China, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its vibrant terraces, crystal-clear pools, and lush forests. While rare creatures like giant pandas and Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkeys may be spotted, the chances are low.
For an unforgettable experience, consider taking the cable car up and enjoying a leisurely walk down, which typically takes about 4-5 hours if you prefer a slower pace. Entrance is free for visitors over 60, but the cable car ride costs around 10 euros. For those under 60, entrance fees vary from 8 euros in off-season to 22.5 euros during peak season. During our visit in April, much of the park was blanketed in snow, covering up many of the terraces. However, we were fortunate to find a small area where the terraces were visible.
Getting to Huanglong National Park isn't the simplest journey. Located about 370 kilometers from Chengdu, 110 kilometers from Jiuzhaigou Valley, and roughly 50 kilometers from Jiuzhaigou Huanglong Airport, it requires some planning. One option is taking the train from Chengdu to Zhenjiangguan, a journey lasting about 1.5 hours. From there, you can catch a bus or taxi to Jiuzhaigou, which takes approximately 2-3 hours. Explore Jiuzhaigou National Park for two nights, then take a taxi to Huanglong National Park. Choose to stay overnight or continue your journey. Alternatively, start at Huanglong National Park before visiting Jiuzhaigou National Park, your choice.
