If you only plan on visiting one rice terrace during your Bali holiday, make it Jatiluwih! Jatiluwih is a UNESCO World Heritage site that feels like Bali's beating heart. The landscape tells the story of centuries-old farming traditions where every tier of the terraces are carved meticulously by hand.
Walking through these fields is truly something else. First of all, they’re so green! We’re sometimes a bit disappointed when visiting rice terraces because you need to time your visit just right to avoid the fields being freshly planted or already harvested. But not with Jatiluwih! With so many terraces, you’re sure to find a stretch of beautifully green rice fields. Couple that with the sound of calm water flowing through the irrigation channels, and it’ll feel as if time’s standing still.
Make sure to visit one of the small warungs along the way! Who could resist having a delicious Balinese coffee or yummy nasi goreng with a view like this? When we say the view is magical, we mean it!
We can say with confidence that the rice terraces at Jatiluwih deserve every right to be on the UNESCO World Heritage list. They’re the most impressive rice terraces we’ve ever seen, and we’ve seen a lot of them! Entrance is only 50,000 IDR (around € 3) too, so what’s stopping you? ;-)
