Baños de Agua Santa is the ideal base for all thrill and adventure-seeking travellers. Rafting, hiking, zip lining, ... it’s all possible. From adventurous activities to wellness, Baños offers something for everyone. Our favourite activity in Baños is mountain biking to the 80-meter-high waterfall Pailón del Diablo surrounded by a lush jungle.
Around Baños, it is teeming with waterfalls. Rent a bike in town or at your ho(s)tel and follow the Ruta de las Cascades. On this 18-kilometre-long route, you will encounter multiple waterfalls. And they saved the best for last: Pailòn del Diablo.
The entrance fee is $2. As you get closer to the waterfall, the mist from the waterfall turns into drops. So be prepared to get wet. You reach various viewpoints of the impressive waterfall via stairs, tunnels and suspension bridges. At a certain point, you can even walk behind the waterfall.
A big plus: the route is almost entirely downhill. In Pailón, you can take a pick-up back to Baños for a few dollars, so you don't have to cycle back up the mountain.
