If you watch videos of Bali and Lombok, you’ll probably have seen this waterfall before. It is the most picture perfect waterfall hidden deep within a valley at the bottom of Mount Rinjani.
From the Malaka region - where we stayed while we were in Lombok - it is a 1h40 drive towards the entrance of the waterfall park. Tiu Kelep is located near the Rinjani basecamp from where multiple day hikes start to the top of the volcano. When you enter the waterfall park (entrance is a few dollars), you get 2 waterfalls for 1: Sendang Gile & Tiu Kelep.
Locals will tell you that you need a guide to find the way within the valley towards Tiu Kelep. Because Sendang Gile is easy to find at the bottom of the stairs, but to find Tiu Kelep you need to follow a less marked path. You don’t need a guide in our opinion. Close to Sendang Gile is a marker scratched out indicating a route that follows a path along the cliff wall. Follow this path until you reach stairs and a bridge. Cross the bridge and continue on this path until you need to cross the river 2 times (wear waterproof shoes). After this the path continues along the riverbank until you reach the famous fallen tree and 100m further you will see Tiu Kelep waterfall!
