The city of Antwerp has created a cycling route to introduce you to its architectural highlights. Starting and ending at the iconic Grote Markt, Antwerp's architectural cycling tour is a well-curated route that features the city’s most celebrated landmarks, as well as its hidden gems. From the Central Station and the MAS, to the house of Panamarenko, one of the most influential Belgian artists of the 20th century and Middelheim Park.
🚲 You can choose between 2 routes: the longer route spans 30 kilometres. For a more leisurely ride, opt for the shorter route of 16 kilometres which still packs in plenty of highlights. Look for the signposted red bikes that indicate the route.
Before you set off, don’t forget to stop by the tourist office at the Grote Markt. Here, you can pick up a detailed map of the route, complete with photography tips, and get all the information you need on bike rentals. 🗺️
My personal favourites on the route are:
🔹 Eilandje: the trendy marina district and home to the Museum aan de Stroom (MAS)
🔹 Port House: an architectural masterpiece by Zaha Hadid
🔹 Zurenborg: the Belle Epoque quarter
🔹 Zuid: a popular area with the recently renovated Museum of Fine Arts
🔹 Scheldt quays & Sint-Anna tunnel: enjoy the view of the city's skyline on the other bank of the river
