Let's hike the Christoffelberg!!
I wanted to hike the mountain from the moment I discovered it was possible. Luckily my friend from work already did it once and was planning to go again. So, when she asked me if I wanted to join her, I was soooooo excited!
After a short night of sleep, I got up pretty early and got ready. Together with Pearl (my rental car) I picked up my friends and we drove to Westpunt, where the mountain is located. About 40 km from Willemstad.
You have to buy a ticket to be able to enter the National Park, but after arriving, it didn't take us long before we where heading up.
The hike takes about an hour to an hour and a half, depending on how many breaks you take. The trail is clearly marked with yellow arrows and dots painted on rocks and trees. It starts relatively flat, but gradually becomes steeper. As you near the top, you even have to use your hands and feet to climb because of the steepness. However, it's manageable for anyone who is in good physical condition.
Once you reach the top, you're rewarded with a refreshing breeze and a 360-degree view of the entire island. Definitly worth it and a great workout ;))
TIP: Plan this hike early in the morning, on a day you will be spending on the west side of the island!!
